The Miss Mattie Foundation supports the youth of Pike, Amite, and Walthall counties by providing annual scholarships of up to $11,000 each year to any accredited post-secondary educational institutions in the state of Mississippi. 

The Miss Mattie Foundation was formed in 2013 to provide a lasting tribute to beloved teacher and librarian, Miss Mattie Rials.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

1 – The Miss Mattie Scholarship ($5,000) is awarded to one graduating high school senior per year from Pike, Amite, or Walthall counties.  Students are recognized for their commitment to academic excellence and service to their community.  The scholarship is paid directly to the college or university as a one-time payment towards the cost of tuition.  

2 – The Miss Sybil Scholarship ($2,500) is awarded to one graduating high school senior per year from Pike, Amite, or Walthall counties.  Students are recognized for their commitment to academic excellence and service to their community.  The scholarship is paid directly to the college or university as a one-time payment towards the cost of tuition. 

3 – The Scooter Mouse and Punie Mae Scholarships ($1500 per two recipients) are awarded to two graduating high school seniors per year from Pike, Amite, or Walthall counties.  Students are recognized for their commitment to academic excellence and service to their community.  The scholarship is paid directly to the college or university as a one-time payment towards the cost of tuition. 

4 - The Rials Family Scholarship For Continuing Education ($500) is awarded to one person per year from Pike, Amite, or Walthall counties.  Students already enrolled at a college or university are eligible to apply.  Students are recognized for their commitment to academic excellence and service to their community.  The scholarship is paid directly to the college or university as a one-time payment towards the cost of tuition.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be:

  • Current high school (or home-schooled) senior

  • At least 16 years of age at the time of application

  • A current resident of Pike, Amite, or Walthall County in the state of Mississippi

  • A citizen or permanent resident of the United States

  • Beginning full-time study at an accredited post-secondary educational institution in the state of Mississippi

  • Academic achievement of 2.5 GPA or higher

  • ACT score of 18 or higher

  • Involved in community service

  • Have demonstrated financial need


Applicants may not:

  • Be a relative of Mattie Rials or Sybil Hayman

  • Be a relative of any board members of the Miss Mattie Foundation

 

 

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

  • Correspondence courses, vo-tech, or internet courses will not qualify.

  • The Miss Mattie Foundation reserves the right to verify the accuracy of the information contained in the submitted application package

 

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES:

Applications must be postmarked by Friday, April 19, 2024.  The Miss Mattie Foundation will not be able to accept applications that are postmarked after that date.

How do I apply for a scholarship?

An initial application becomes available on our website each year.  If you meet the eligibility requirements at the time, you may apply by submitting a completed application packet to the Miss Mattie Foundation board by the deadline. The Foundation board will then employ a blind review process to select the winners.
